Installation

Gravity Pumped C Plan

Installation of a Gravity Pumped C Plan is very straightforward. But there are a few things that have to be done properly that are detailed below to ensure that it works properly. The Tadpole must be installed within the PRIMARY FLOW of a heating system between the boiler and the pump and the cold feed and expansion pipe must be no more than 15 cm apart. (They should have been installed this way originally) but if are further apart, will need to be brought to within 15 cm of each other or the Tadpole may not work properly. This applies to any gravity fed system.

The Tadpole must also be installed at least one foot (25 cm) above the pump for maximum efficiency, as the pump needs to draw down through the Tadpole to be fully effective.

Procedure

1. Drain the system. If possible power flush the system, if not simple draining will suffice.
2. Connect the primary flow from the boiler to the connection on the side of the Tadpole.
3. Connect the outgoing primary flow to the pump to the bottom of the Tadpole.
4. Connect the automatic air vent to the top of the unit.
Remove the protective cap
5. Re-commission the heating system following the boiler manufacturer’s instructions.

After Installation

1. Once the system has been checked for leaks and re-commissioned, heat up time should be shorter and the heating system should get much hotter from the same boiler setting. It may be advisable to reduce the setting of the main boiler thermostat.
2. Once the system has reached set point and has been running for about 20 minutes, it may be noted that the circulation pump will be running more quietly. This is due to the reduction of dissolved air in the system.
3. Tap water, which is the original source of the primary circuit, contains roughly 2.5% dissolved air. In heating systems some of this air is driven out simply through a rise in temperature, but not all. This is why corrosion inhibitors need to be added, to protect the radiators from corrosion. The Tadpole reduces the risk of system corrosion and therefore reduces the need to add inhibitors. If the boiler is under warranty, even though the inhibitor is not needed it is necessary to add an inhibitor or the manufacturer may not honour the warranty in case of any future fault with the boiler.
