Fran Ham of Herefordshire said when we made a follow-up service call a month after installation:

"The system is running much better. There is piping hot water and the radiators are hotter even though I have turned the boiler stat down to 1. Prior to having the Tadpole fitted, it used to be set between 3 and 4. So presumably I am using less oil. The system also doesn't wake me up at 7 in the morning when it comes on as it always used to.. So I am delighted!"

UPDATE March 10th 2008. Mrs Ham called me to say that she usually has to order oil at the beginning of March, and has done so for the last 10 years, but she was surprised to find that this year the tank is still 1/3 full!! Big savings for her thanks to the Tadpole. "

Mr Horton of Teeside had many problems with his heating system, which is of the gravity
fed type, including having to replace corroded radiators due to the ingress of air,
which he had been unable to prevent. Mr Horton was unwilling to change the system to a
“sealed” system as that would bring on even more problems, mainly due to increased
operating pressure.

A Tadpole was installed. When the system was re-commissioned, the difference in performance was noticed within the first 10 minutes of the heating cycle.

The system was heating up much quicker.
The system, which had previously been very noisy was now almost silent.
The pump was now vibration free.
The radiators were heating much faster
The radiators reached a much higher temperature than before the installation
of the Tadpole.
The domestic hot water reached a much higher temperature and recovered much faster and to a higher temperature.
Since installation of the tadpole there has never been a need to bleed radiators.

Mr Horton has reported to us:-

"That as well as the system now operating better than before the installation of the Tadpole, he is convinced that he is saving money on his gas bill and will report to us when the next utility arrives."

Native Chartered Architects. York

This is an architectural practice that specialises in environmentally sustainable design for existing and new build projects.

The practice is run by the husband and wife team of Sally and Chris Walker who recently took the step of building a dedicated office adjacent to their house to accommodate the expanding business and designing it to have as small a carbon footprint as possible.

The office is naturally lit using large areas of triple glazing and sunpipes but heating was rather more of an issue and various options were considered and rejected.

Photovoltaics, oil, and heatpump forms of heating were too costly and contained too much embodied energy or required expensive and ‘dirty’ energy to provide a primary energy source.

Ultimately a Gilles 30kW Bio-mass pellet boiler was chosen, to run not only the new extension to the practice, but their home as well. This allows a projected annual Carbon saving of between 6 and 7 tonnes.

In addition to this Carbon Neutral form of heating Native became aware  that an Aquastan Tadpole could help run the bio-mass boiler more efficiently and following meetings with their installer, a 28mm Tadpole was installed.

The result was that the boiler thermostat settings following commissioning had to be reduced by 10 degrees as the domestic hot water and the central heating water temperature was far too hot.

The underfloor heating to the office has been set to minimum and thermostatic radiator valves on the radiators in the partners house have been turned down from 5 to 2. Radiators that previously were lukewarm have now properly heated up for the first time and Native is looking forward to very low heating bills!

Mr Miller of North London quoted:-

"After I had the Tadpole fitted the difference was incredible, the heat from the rads is just unreal and the stat is at 50% of it's max operating temp. I couldn’t believe the speed at which it also heated up."
